A month of Sundays....

After lots of sweat, tears and blood (well, just a scratch here and there), we have FINALLY finished the revamp on our guest bathroom!  And it couldn't have come at a better time because my mom is coming into town this weekend and she will be our first guest of honor!  Also, I really see why it's important to have two sinks in a master bath.  Ours doesn't, and this blog was about to be retitled as "Life a/k/a MY Journey" if this project kept up too much longer :)  Just kidding (sort of).

Either way, here is a quick breakdown of what we did:

1) Painted
2) Replaced the old school countertop with a new granite one
3) Replaced the light fixture, faucet, and towel rack
4) Removed the old medicine cabinet and filled in the space with a floating shelf
5) Painted the old cabinet the dark expresso color
6) Added new door knobs to the cabinet doors
7) Redecorated with new shower curtain, towels, and accessories.

Overall, we only spent about $420.00!  Here is a quick budget breakdown:
* Decor (Towels, shower curtain, artwork, etc.) - $113
* Building materials (Paint, putty, paint brushes, sandpaper, etc.) - $150
* Fixtures (Countertop, faucet, lighting, etc.) - $158.

Just a shout-out to Rustoleum...we tried their new "Cabinet Transformations" kit, and absolutely loved it! I was quite hesistant at first to use it, but figured it was such a small vanity that if I screwed it up, it wouldn't be too hard to replace!  Luckily, it worked wonderfully and we plan on using it in our master bath when we revamp that too (not for a long time though)!

Here is the bathroom before.  I loved the decor, but it was in need of some updating:

Even before this revamp we replaced the old linoleum floor with tiles instead.  Notice the old countertop that went over the toilet?  Well, we ripped that off and this is what we were left with:
Then, we removed the old "studio" light, and were left with this:

Apparently, the original builders had a hard time finding the wire, so we were left with quite a patch job!

Then, the removal of the medicine cabinet left us with this:

Anthony had the great idea of finishing that in and letting it be a sort of recessed shelving area.  Excellent idea I thought!  However, this small little "knook" almost made me lose ALL of my hair.  I think we used almost an entire bucket of spackle on this thing!

Will it ever end?!  Haha, yes, after 6 whole weeks of weekend work, we got THIS!

Our new lighting fixture:

New decor and towel rack:

New vanity and faucet:
(I loved how the crystal knobs seemed to be shaped like the design on the shower curtain).

And lastly, the medicine cabinet.  I would still like to "decorate" this more, but thankfully there will be no more patching and sanding and patching and sanding!

The only thing we weren't able to finish is adding some nice, crisp, white trim around the edge of the mirror.  I think this will finish it off nicely.  We just didn't have time to set up my new miter saw (yes, I know you are jealous), and get that project done with the time we had left.

Well, there you have it!  I am sure you are glad I am finally done talking about this project!  Perhaps a little later I will share with you my many "pearls of wisdom" I gained through this process.  Yes, I know you will anxiously await that post ;)

  1. It looks so pretty!! I love the wall color...it brightens it up so much. I also like that the small counter over the toilet is gone. I think it looks bigger now. Great job you two!
